Hares 'N' Hounds 5K and Fun Runs 2014
A Fundraiser for Atascadero High School Athletics
The Hares 'N' Hounds event was founded by Chris Shuck, originally to help fund the all-weather track at Atascadero High School. Over the years the event has raised over $57,000 for the Atascadero Greyhound Foundation to help provide facilities and equipment for athletic activities at AHS like the weight room and snack bar as well as the track.
About the Location
The Atascadero Lake Park is located on Morro Road near Portola Road. The local Zoo is on the same grounds. There are activities on the Lake like pedal boats and kayaks for rent. Boating is allowed on the lake, but swimming is not. The children's park is a lot of fun, and kids can also feed the ducks that live at the lake most of the year.
The 5K course starts on the perimeter road adjacent to the Atascadero Lake Pavillion and goes counter-clockwise around the lake, (right) up Portola road, (left) down Atascadero Avenue, (left) over Marchant Avenue, back to the perimeter road, and then clockwise around the lake, to finish at the same place as the start.
The 1-Mile and 1/2 Mile are out-and-back, starting and finishing at the same start-line as the 5K, and starting in the same counter-clockwise direction as the 5K.
